Royal Jelly Facts
Royal Jelly is a milky-white, gelatinous substance secreted by the pharyngeal glands of worker bees. It is the exclusive food of the queen bee with the purpose of stimulating growth and development of the queen. The queen bee, although genetically identical to worker bees, generally grows on average 40% larger, 50% heavier, and outlives them by a factor of 40 to 1. Royal Jelly is generally 64-71% water, 12-15% carbohydrates, 12-15% protein, and 5-6% lipids. Its B vitamin and amino acid content is high, including all 8 essential amino acids. Royal Jelly is a highly nutritious substance, not medicine. Although its effects on illness and disease have been studied for hundreds of years, no medicinal benefits from consuming Royal Jelly have ever been definitively proven.
